You attend a job interview and already nervous as it is. On top of that you are stumped by common but tough interview questions. How do you prepare yourself for such interviews? How do you make sure that you have all the right answers the interviewer wants to hear?
Check out these 10 seemingly simple, but nevertheless tricky job interview questions and tips on how to answer them.
1. Tell me more about yourself.
You may have a thousand and one things to say about yourself, but do refrain from babbling on and on.
Tip: Highlight one key trait that may be of similar interest to the company. For instance, if you actively promote saving the environment and you discovered that the company also donates generously in support of green movements, highlighting it shows that your personal goals are in alignment with the company’s values.
2. What is your greatest weakness?
One thing you should not say is that you don’t have any. Identifying your own weakness indicates that you are aware of your limitations. Knowing your weakness is the first step to overcoming it. But what weakness should you mention?
Tip: Do not mention a weakness that is critical to your job scope. Mention a weakness that can be easily overcome by your own strengths. For instance, you are lacking in computer skills, but you are willing to learn and are a fast learner. That will impress the interviewers.
3. Why should we hire you?
As much as you would not want to sound like you’re boasting, but you need to showcase some of your professional achievements and personal traits to entice them to hire you
Tip: Let’s say that you have applied for a managerial position in a restaurant. Tell them if you have achieved any awards for the best manager in the region!..
