Ever tried to become a CPA? If so, were you successful at it? Or were you one of those unfortunates who got derailed, distracted or stalled out? Most never try it just because of personal inertia or laziness. Some intended to try but stalled out for lack of knowing how to start. Some were put off, scared by the unknowns. Others went off and tried something else because they never really understood the potential benefits.
When you understand more about it, most of those hinderances to action tend to go away. Let’s have a look at the 3 main reasons that people decide to become a CPA.
1. Get (And Maintain) The Respect
First off, You achieve the “black-belt” status in accounting by becoming a CPA and get all the respect from family, friends, colleagues and business partners. Yes, I hear your objection that you have a good stable job and there is no need to go through this CPA exam ordeal. That may very well be true, however many aspire to become a CPA at any cost, and there must be a reason. Respect is one reason, and another is more practical: you don’t want to be put in the position 5-10 years down the road when you have to sit for the CPA exam or risk getting laid off by your company, when you get promoted to a level that a CPA title becomes a necessity.
2. Take This Golden Opportunity
Second, an AICPA report has shown that 75% of the CPAs are going to retire in 15 years. Plus, the fact that it takes you 5-10 years to get established in your experience and reputation to become a partner or even set up your own CPA firm, this is possibly the best time to get the CPA qualification. And at the same time, the number of jobs that require a CPA title has increased considerably given the recent corporate scandals and financial turmoil that reveals the weakness of financial integrity of business at large.
3. Widen Your Career Path
Third and last, by becoming a CPA, you can get exposed to a much wider variety of jobs related to but different from the traditional, routine and possibly mundane job a typical accounting clerk encounters in a typical firm. For example, there is a lot of consultancy type of work that requires a CPA to give a professional evaluation, and this can be in highly specialized and promising area e.g. healthcare. Another example is forensic accounting which sounds intriguing with the name alone!
This will most likely mean that getting serious to become a CPA exam should be the way to go if you are looking for further respect and fulfillment in your accounting career. Once again, you will be facing a lot of long hours burying yourself in the books once again, but with the help of proper planning and the right CPA exam review course, becoming a CPA is certainly doable.
Think about those three reasons, consider them. For many, they make a compelling case for seriously considering trying to become an Accountant of the highest league. Do they convince you?
After considering those three reasons to become a CPA, what do you think? Shouldn’t you seriously consider it too?

I agree being a cpa should have much value. but, in real world, the value isn’t exercised for a lot of fake cpas are out there. they introduce themselves as a cpa even if she does not have the license. near zero possibility of being caught historically. States have regulating laws etc that rarely work, for ordinary people simply believe what is told.they do not bother to go to secretary of state website to check, or have no idea of the existence of that sort of checking device. states seem to only wait somebody reports the fake cpas. however, nobody simply dare to risk a chance to be retaliated.
