What do employers look for in potential employees? That was the question that was posted recently in an online discussion forum posts. Naturally, for each position, the response to this particular issue would be different. However, there are some skills that employers look for in every employee if the employee becomes a network engineer or a fry cook.

In-Demand Skills for Success

1. Basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic! Believe it or not, a good part of high school graduates (and some graduate students) do not read at a 8th grade level and can not do multiplication in your head. Employers are seeking employees who can read well, you can write coherently, and can calculate the math in a business environment (fractions, percentages, etc) Add to modernity that the basic typing skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to use most tools (eg, fax, word processing program commodities, etc.) to round out the skill sets necessary for employment success.

2. Skills, Can you talk a good potential employee? Can he / she responds to customer questions in a positive, informative? The perspective can provide good customer service? While not everyone has an outgoing personality, sales, successful employees can communicate in a non-confrontational, in a positive manner with co-workers, team members, subordinates, management, and customers. Being able to work well with others is a skill essential for success in all jobs.

3. Work performance, job search is a process that requires dedication and attention to be carried out successfully. It follows that the former director of many veteran programmers refer to as GIGO, Garbage In, Garbage Out. If you put wrong in the effort, you will get bad results. Employers are seeking employees who know how to give a positive and show enthusiasm and knowledge about the companies that are approaching. Not only do candidates get evaluated on their skills and experience but also on how they approach the job search. Enthusiastic candidates with less knowledge are an opportunity to gain work as a boring candidate with better skills.

4. JOB SURVIVAL, are now a hot topic during this period of layoffs. Who gets the ax and is often not a matter of numbers but also is often a question of performance. Employees who have proven their value in the initiative, and made themselves a valuable asset to the company have a lower incidence of being reduced to the employees who provided mediocre or half effort in their jobs. Surviving in a company through layoffs or moving up the career success is a skill that is learned and is consciously cultivated among successful professionals.

5. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Like all high-tech and engineering pros know, you learn or record on the current work environment. The achievement of new skills, implementing new concepts, the updating of skills is an absolute necessity to succeed in today’s work force. The successful individual is constantly attending seminars, taking classes, the achievement of training on new products or releases, and other learning new skills that will keep them in his career. Successful people are lifelong learners. Employers are looking for people who have the necessary training to meet their needs.

6. Career development, differs from the Career Development Professional Development. Professional Development is learning at the same time the development and planning is a process of setting goals. Successful people develop a career plan in writing with the objectives of short and long term. Sets out the steps needed to advance their careers from point A to point B in Schedule C and plan how to achieve these steps. The successful person has someone to whom they are responsible for their progress and will monitor its success in achieving its objectives. Employers are looking for people who (believe it or not) want to commit to the company over a long period of time. Good career development is a big selling point for candidates to potential employers.
