Better worker payouts sought

WORKERS left stranded by company collapses would leapfrog the chain of secured creditors waiting to be paid, under a plan being investigated by the Federal Government.

To try to boost chances of entitlements being delivered, it is believed the Government is considering improving the rankings of employees against other creditors such as the tax office.

A separate union push to guarantee 100 per cent of workers’ entitlements—such as redundancy and annual leave payments—has failed to win backing from senior ministers at this week’s ALP national conference…
