Do bullies still exist in the workplace?

Threats, insults, name calling and public humiliation are more common in the workplace than ever before. Many of us have been on the receiving end of this behaviour in elementary and/or high school, and it really hurts. And what’s worse, sometimes it doesn’t stop after you leave the playground. Bullying takes place everywhere, in the park, at community events, at home and certainly in the workplace.

Most of the time it’s verbal and emotional but that doesn’t mean it’s any less damaging than a physical confrontation.

Are you experiencing any of the following when you’re at work?

1) Is a co-worker, or your boss, calling you names, shouting obscenities or belittling your efforts in front of an audience?

2) Are you being treated like you are invisible? Did you get passed by when you expected to be promoted, or is your authority often circumvented?

3) Are you being cut off in mid-sentence when you try to give feedback, or is somebody using a patronizing tone when speaking to you?
