Employers should recruit graduates through internship and apprenticeship schemes to help keep unemployment down – and they can be choosier than ever.

Competition for graduate jobs is fierce, with nearly 70 university leavers scrambling for every vacancy, a report by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) has shown.

With so many graduates competing for the same jobs, there is a chance for small and large employers to dip into a pool of talent that simply hasn’t been available in recent years.

But it pays to think carefully about which type of candidate will help take the business forward, so that it can emerge stronger from the recession. It is more important than ever, for both the short and long-term future of any business, to attract the right individuals…
