How can you get a job if you have no job experience?

1) You have to start at the bottom. Most people start at fast food restraunts, movie theatres, or places like Target or Walmart. Right now it’s tough because for everybody, and really 15 applications isn’t all that many (although I know if feels like it.)

2) I’m not sure how you are handing in your application, but I would suggest handing it in, in-person to the manager. Ask if the manager is available, introduce yourself.

Ask if there are any position available, if so give them the application and explain that you would be very interested in working for thier company.

Ask them if there is anything else they need from you (they will probably double check for a phone number and/or email address.)

Dress at least business casual. It doesn’t need to be real professional, but I suggest more than just jeans, t-shirt, and athletic shoes or flip-flops. Be ready for an on-the-spot interview. If they have time, and need somebody, they might interview you right then and there.

If there is not a position available, it doesn’t hurt to drop off the resume anyway and let them know you would be interested if anything come up. It looks more professional than just leaving and not offering a look at the resume/application.

3) Follow up with the manager a few days later, I usually give them about a week or 5 business days. Ask the manager if they have had a chance to look at your application. Ask when they expect to be making their decision (for most of the jobs you would be applying for, it’s ongoing.) After they give you a date, thank them politely and tell them you hope to have the opportunity to speak with them more.

4) Continue to follow up after the dates they give you. Keep calling until you either get an interview, or tell you the position is filled.
