Angie asked:

When you are offered a job, how much time should you take to consider the offer- how long is too long?

Best Answer:

It depends on the level of the position. For lower level/entry level positions, it should be short – next day at the latest. For mid-level positions (5-15 yrs experience), 2-3 days is acceptable. For high level positions (director, VP), a week or longer standard.

Don’t assume how long you have to accept though – be sure to ask when you get the offer, and if you forgot to ask, just give them a call and ask when they need your answer.

Legitimate reasons for needing extra time include: offer was not what you were expecting, multiple offers and you need to figure it out, leaving an existing job and weighing the pros/cons of each position. Don’t play games, however, it could cost you in the end.
