What a great question! Is there anyone who wouldn’t like to “fire their boss” and enjoy their life? Easily said, but not so easily done. What will it take for a person to leave their job? Well, its takes several things. It’s not about cliche’s either. It’s about having a positive attitude and expectation that it can be done, knowledge, attitude and an excellent work ethic to make it happen.
Having lived on both sides of this street, I personally know what it’s like. First, one must have faith and a positive attitude that such goal is achievable. Without that, it’s impossible to move from first base.
Next, comes a burning desire to achieve financial freedom as a worthwhile goal. Realize you deserve to be in control of your time and future versus helping the boss to ensure his or hers unless of course that is your choice.
After desire comes specialized knowledge about what it is you plan to do to earn income. Will you provide a service? Will you market a product? Or will you make widgets to wholesale to others? Do you have the knowledge to run a business and are you willing to face the obstacles of doing all the things that the company or others used to do for you?
Who will pay for your training? Do you have the capital to run your business for a couple of years without profit if necessary? If not, will you borrow it from a financial institution, individual or dip into your savings and retirement funds? Will you start part time or go full-time from day one?
Do you have selling and marketing skills? Creating a product or developing a service is one thing. Selling it to a willing buyer is another. Who handles customer service, accounting, legal issues and day to day operations?
Once you get a handle on those you can incorporate them into a well thought out plan. You may want to consult a professional for advice. Don’t get stuck in the “waiting line” through the analysis of paralysis either…
