Bored office workers are most likely to set aside their tasks and indulge in a spot of online retail therapy at 4pm on a Wednesday.

Traffic to internet shopping sites is 75 per cent higher at 4pm on the middle day of the working week than at the quietist times, a study has found.

The research suggested employees are turning to online shopping to stave off boredom and escape from the pressures of work.

Many workers also start browsing for internet bargains during the “post-lunch slump”, with the afternoons proving the most popular time to buy online…
