Pay deals drop despite recovery

The typical pay award has fallen by almost half to 1.9pc in February compared
with a year ago, the latest pay deals data shows.

Of the 74 deals monitored in the three months to the end of January, covering
almost 234,000 employees mostly in the private sector, the median pay
increase was 1.9pc, compared with 3.5pc in the same period last year.

Income Data Services, which monitors the deals, revised downwards its previous
January estimates of average pay increases from 1.8pc to 1.6pc, as more
