Learning how to handle responsibility is one of the inevitable lessons in life. A great time to start learning about responsibility is in the tween years, the ages from 8 to 12.

Most tweens come to the age as they are mentally and physically capable of taking on additional responsibilities. Having them earn their own money, for example, can give them a feeling of empowerment over their lives. Tweens can’t usually apply for jobs at their age, but there are many things they can do to earn money and acquire values like dependability and commitment.

Baby sitting is a great way to earn extra money. Many public organizations sponsor babysitting certification classes for tweens. Lend them the money for the class and they can pay you back after their first few gigs…
